How’s Your Soul?” By Judah Smith
For this #favoritebookfriday we’re diving into “How’s Your Soul?”by Judah Smith. I had been checking out his sermons (please watch Jesus Loving Barabbas it’s so good)and picked up this book. It’s like sitting down with Judah over coffee. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry but it’s life changing. (If you looked at my copy it literally looks like a rainbow threw up on it from the writing and underlining I did in it)
I don’t think we sit down and talk about “how’s your soul?” Like we ask about our bodies but not our soul. The intro to this book, Judah writes about our souls were meant to be with God in our eternal home. Home is such a nice thing.
A Healthy soul environment would in explained in the Creation story: rest, responsibly, restriction and relationship. God is the one who gives us these for a healthy soul.
Then Judah talks about emotions and how we’re surprised by our souls when we put things into perspective. Psalm 42 and 43 shows us that God knows what’s going on inside of us and he is the one who can fix our broken down souls. Our hope is in God, and not in anything we can do! God is available to you!
Next, our souls need to be anchored in Jesus . (Hebrews 6:17-20). We try to anchor ourselves to each other and end up sinking. A lot of time we want Helicopter Jesus instead of Anchor Jesus. Jesus is in the storm. “But here’s the thing about anchors. Anchors do their best work when they’re never seen” Judah says. The point isn’t the journey but simply being with Jesus. God is with you.
(I decided Favorite Book Friday will sections of books at a time since there isn’t enough space to summarize a whole books so here’s chapters 1-4)
Hey if @judahsmith stumbles across this tiny blog, know that I’m a huge fan and inspired as a someone who’s going to be a young pastor. I may have also watched almost every sermons on the Churchome YouTube channel in maybe a month.
