Favorite Book Friday November 20,2020

Welcome to #favoritebookfriday! It’s also my last day of my first semester of freshman year of college! Yay! We’re celebrating we a sermon stream! So he Looking out for that!
So we’re in a new section of this book with a second dangerous prayer titled “Break me” there’s a very short story from the Bible in 1 Chronicles 4:9-11. There’s this guy named Jabez. His name means “he causes pain” he prays a simple prayer in verse 11: “oh that you bless me would enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me and keep me from harm so that in will be free from pain.” That’s bold. It’s also a comfortable safe prayer. In the New Testament, James had something else to say. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
James 1:2-4 NIV
Pain may not feel or seem good but something good will come from our trial. Sometimes we have to ask for God to break us. That’s the truth. Brokenness will happen. Something good will come from that. It’s not comfortable and it will hurt. God does you and has a plan. You have to be open to surrender and let him break the parts that need or be broken so Hs can rebuild.
We all wanna pray this prayer of “Lord break me.” But It’s scary. We don’t know the outcome like God does. We’re missing out on His grand plan by holding onto our comfort. Could being broken lead us to a life better than we imagined?
Like what Jesus said. If you keep trying to find life, you’ll lose it. He gave up his comfort of heaven to die a painful death on a cross so what can we do be be a little more like our savior?
Chapter Highlights (2.1-2.3)
If we pray for only protection from trials then we rob ourselves from our future maturity.
God loves you and has your best interest in mind. But for me to be wholly useful to him, I’d have to be empty of myself.
What are we losing by clinging to our comfort?
