Favorite Book Friday October 30,2020

I posted on Instagram but I forgot to post on the website
We’re back back back again on #favoritebookfriday and I have not witty banter. We’re reading “Dangerous Prayers” by Craig Groeschel. I’ve a lot of stuff to do but I love you guys.
So we’re still looking at the prayer “Search me” it’s David’s prayer in Psalm 139. This prayer is one of the most vulnerable places to be. “Search me God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there’s any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” Verses 23-24 say. It’s hard to pray but also live out. Don’t pray it if you don’t mean it. But why do we pray it if God knows out hearts? Cause our hearts are wicked and deceitful. Jeremiah 17:9 says. That why we need Jesus. If there was anything good in us we’d never need Jesus. As humans we like to rationalize things. We all wanna cope with human emotions and that’s why this prayer of “search me” is dangerous.
This “search me” prayer is something that we should pray often. It makes you aware of the human condition. Especially in the light of Jesus. We can ask Jesus to show us and learn to love him. It can redirect your life
In the last section of what we’re gonna read today, the dangerous prayer is “reveal my fears”. The second part of the verse we read is verse 24. David says “know my anxious thoughts”. That means we share our deepest fears to God. We can ask God to show us what’s holding out mind captive and help each us face out fear. Our fear shows us places we trust God the least. Fear shows us we’re relying on ourselves and not trusting Jesus. We are never enough but Jesus is. God wants to give you what’s on the other side of fear. The enemy wants you be be stuck in fear. Let God lead you in faith. You need his help in this. It’s a dangerous prayer but God is here to help
Chapter Highlights (1.3-1.5
Our ways are not God’s ways. That’s why we need Christ. Not just to forgive us but to transform us. To direct us. To make us new.
This prayer of “search me” shows me instead of asking God what he can do for me, I ask him to reveal something in me.
The something that needed to be different was loving someone named Jesus.
By trusting God, you are saying God is bigger than any fear you’re facing
We’re never enough. We’re always weak. But here’s the incredible thing: when we are weak, God’s power is made perfect
We can’t be driven by fear, instead we should be led by faith.
As God reveals your fears, he will also build your faith.
Faith doesn’t mean you don’t get afraid. Faith means you don’t let fear stop you.
