Blog Post Monday January 18,2021
Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on this #blogpostmonday. Soooo I’m quitting my job this week. I have to be honest and say I wasn’t enjoying it. I dreaded going and it increased my anxiety. I’m going to be moving in on February 4th for college so I’ll be at home until then to ensure a negative Covid test. However with these two weeks I wanna make more content for you guys so what do you guys wanna talk about this week?
So if you live in America, you know it’s also Inauguration Day on Wednesday. Let’s pray for safety and wise decisions of the people of the United States. This will be a peaceful transition of power. God is not in the insurrection and violence especially not claimed to be in his name. I grew up a southern gal so I’ll be at home.
I talk a lot on my personal account about social justice and liberation theology. The gospel is to set people free. The gospel is not a tool for bondage. Jesus said if the Son sets you free, you’ll be free indeed.
In King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” it is noted that it was a response to white pastors saying that his actions to peacefully protest were too much and they should leave it to the government to deal with the issues of racism. They said it was “unwise and untimely”. We have to be honest and say injustice is real. We can’t sit idly by when we can do something. I’m going to leave you a link to read it. I can’t go over every detail but let’s go over the closing of it.
I hope this letter finds you strong in the faith. I also hope that circumstances will soon make it possible for me to meet each of you, not as an integrationist or a civil-rights leader but as a fellow clergyman and a Christian brother. Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away and the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted from our fear drenched communities, and in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty.
Yours for the cause of Peace and Brotherhood, Martin Luther King, Jr.
If you can, find an act of service you can do whether it be big or small. Let’s talk soon guys. Love you!
