I can’t talk about what I planned to so you I’ll get to read it when I can share it. I can talk about things like a poem I wrote in the fall is being published in my college prelude. You can look for it here.
What I have learned a lot about is leadership and what I’m called to do in life. I love preaching and teaching as well as writing. I also have the strong urge to fight for racial justice. But I’m tired and worn. Maybe it’s my crazy busy week last week but I’m worn down. I’m tired of people not understanding the struggles of being a black woman. I’m frustrated with the system, I’m frustrated with church’s, I’m frustrated with people. I still love parts of these things but things need to change. People say things but don’t do anything. Something struck me over the week and I’ll share it. Let’s look at Luke 10:25-37, the parable of the good Samaritan.
“Just then a religion scholar stood up with a question to test Jesus. “Teacher, what do I need to do to get eternal life?” He answered, “What’s written in God’s Law? How do you interpret it?” He said, “That you love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence—and that you love your neighbor as well as you do yourself.” “Good answer!” said Jesus. “Do it and you’ll live.” Looking for a loophole, he asked, “And just how would you define ‘neighbor’?””
Luke 10:25-29 MSG
This lawyer asks Jesus about what should he do to inherit eternal life. The lawyer answers Jesus question about what does the law say so he asks “who is my neighbor?” So Jesus told a parable. There was a Jewish man who was beaten and left for dead on the road. A priest and a Levite walk past but a Samaritan takes care of this man and gets a hotel to pay his debts. Jesus asks a particular question at the end of the parable
““What do you think? Which of the three became a neighbor to the man attacked by robbers?” “The one who treated him kindly,” the religion scholar responded. Jesus said, “Go and do the same.””
Luke 10:36-37 MSG
Jesus asked which person was a neighbor and this lawyer should go and do the same thing. Jesus DOESNT say “go and say”. Jesus says “go and do likewise.” What happen to the “go and do” theology? Social justice requires we go and do. Don’t do it reluctantly or under compulsion. If you don’t believe in the fight then don’t. It doesn’t make you more moral or elite but a kind human being. This human being is tired (I’ve taken two naps today and I’m going to bed a few hours). This community is a safe place for you all and for me. I love you all so much. The last time I checked there were 90 follower. Please don’t get give up because you’re so dearly loved. Also this thought came that my birthday is next month and the blog’s one year birthday is in June! I’m also working on a sermon called “Jesus on
Doubt” so look for it soon! Love you!
