Blog Post Monday February 1,2021

Colored hair is liberating. That weird to say on a #blogpostmonday. (Well that’s if my hair is done, if not you’re getting a picture from august). You may ask why but it’s been a symbol of my deconstruction. It’s like Wednesday but I needed to write it all down. I mentioned on my personal experiences of life. I’m a pastor’s kid. Which was fine I guess until I was 14. One day I’ll go deeper into my story but the circumstances I went through I almost walked away from the church. I knew I was called to ministry but I didn’t know how I was going to do it. I went to a conservative private schools where going to chapel every week wasn’t helpful to me. I felt like I was being more brainwashed. Literally my principal the first year would take a ruler and measure out skirt to make sure we were modest. I’ve got a lot more stories but maybe later. I had to step in and be the speaker that kids looked forward to hearing and seeing someone who could relate to being black and a woman. I was the only woman speaker who spoke twice in a period of three years. So why am I telling you all this? I had a breakup in June a few weeks before I starts the blog. Why does that matter? Well the reason behind it is. We had different views on a controversial topic thats an attack on feminism and my race. It gets to something I’ve been thinking about. My high school didn’t allow “colored” hair so red brains were how I got past it. No They didn’t know they were creating a feminist icon. The Crown Act hasn’t been passed in Alabama so you can be kicked out your school or job if they find your hair”unprofessional”
I’m in college now after three years of scandal and systemic racism, I realize colored hair is beautiful. God made me just the way I am and I’m growing still. I don’t exactly know where this train his heading but I’m letting God drive. Being a faith leader has been something I’ve loved to do since I started the blog.
Black is beautiful friends. Deconstruction is cool too. This is a safe place for everyone. Jesus offers everyone a seat at his table.
I’m gonna leave you with this verse. No matter what you’re going through, God offers to be your stronghold. He wants to be your place of safety. You can trust him not to forsake you.
“The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”
Psalm 9:9-10 ESV
