“Where do you need to come alive again?”

Happy #wonderwednesday! I most of the time don’t remember what day it is until I see it on something. I came up with this question Sunday based on “Rattle!” By Elevation Worship. It is a new year and it seems like 2020 took a lot out of us. Like our dreams seems dead with all that happened in one year. Maybe your dream was a new job or career or you wanted to start a new project or find love but it just didn’t work out. I feel ya on that one. However I believe God can do something with it. He is the only one who can. Take that next step of faith sweet friend. Just one. God brings dead things back to life. So there’s this short but weird story in 2 Kings. The prophet Elisha had just died and was buried. Some guy was being buried and those burying him fled and threw him on the bones of Elisha and this guy came back to life. That’s it.

So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. And as a man was being buried, behold, a marauding band was seen and the man was thrown into the grave of Elisha, and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.”

I think of what Jesus did in John 11. Lazarus was dead and his sisters sent word to the only one out there who could do something about it! Except Jesus came four days late. Jewish tradition was that the spirit only lingered three days after someone died. If Jesus had only been there sooner Lazarus would not have died. But what if the death of somethings is part of the plan? I don’t believe God causes bad things to happen but I do believe He uses them. Without dying, you can’t be brought to life again. Where do you need to be restored and brought back to life again? Where do you need to see the wonder of miracles again.

Let’s visit one more story before we close. If you’re on the website you can read the verse but if you’re on instagram, the verse it too long so go read Ezekiel 37:1-14. God gives Ezekiel a vision of a valley of dry bones. He is clear that these bones are very dry. God asked him “Can these bones live?” And Ezekiel says only God knows that. God says prophesy that these dry bones will live! Ezekiel did has he was told and those bones began to rattle and flesh and organs came on these bones and they lived. God said he will open these graves and life will come again. Why? So you remember who God is and what he can do. God speaks words and miracles start happening. He will bring life into dead things then and he can do it now for you.

“The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.” So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.””
