But what if he doesn’t?

Hi! I kinda haven’t been consistent with writing because I moved back home for the summer. I didn’t realize how exhausting college and moving is. I am working on a Patreon for @talesofterryn so look for that this weekend and we’ll as the one year. Blog anniversary at the end of the month. This question I’ve thought about for a while. What if God does not? It comes from here.

“Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.””

‭‭Daniel‬ ‭3:16-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If you haven’t heard this story before it’s one to talk about. These three guys are the only ones who refused to bow down to an idiot the king had set up. When people preach this sermon it’s always “don’t fall to peer pressure.” But I feel like there’s more to this. These guys were brought before the king to get a second chance to bow down. They knew what they were getting into and most people will say “you need to trust God more!” Well okay but how is that helpful? Yes they trust God to save them but look at this “but if he does not…”. Yes God did deliver them but I think about this a lot. What if God doesn’t do what I want. I trust him in the process but I have doubts and you probably do too. God is big enough and strong enough to handle your doubt. He is good.

One more place before we go. Let’s go to Paul in this scripture “Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:8-10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I wanna make something clear: this community doesn’t support spiritual bypassing in any form. Your trauma is real and valid and we love you through it. Paul has some sort of struggle that he doesn’t explain and maybe that’s for the best but he does ask God to take it away. God doesn’t. He says “my grace is sufficient for you.” It doesn’t make sense in the moment now does it. I still don’t get it all time. That’s part of deconstruction and I’m okay with it. Take this journey with me and find God’s Grace is enough.
