How can this be?

On this #wonderwednesday let’s take some to reflect on there’s so much wonder in the Christmas story. I look at Mary and I see so much wonder in her obedience.

“And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy— the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:28-38‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Mary is somewhere between thirteen to seventeen years old. At this time, engagement was basically marriage. Her marriage was probably arranged. The Angel greets her saying she’s she’s been blessed and highly favored because she will bear the son of God. She was one of the first people to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. I think about she could had said no. She knew the law. If Joseph found out she was pregnant, he could have her stoned. I wanna take some time to looks at Joseph next time but today we’re looking at Mary. The Angel told her nothing is impossible with God. God does impossible things for us. Mary’s response was “I am the Lord’s servant. Let it be unto me what you’ve said.”

Do we have a humble spirit like Mary’s? But then again I think about it: it was all part of God’s plan. The king of kings would be born in a stable and placed in a manger because there wasn’t room for him. King Jesus came to be born to live, die and rise again. What a wonderful gift!
