“What is love?
It’s the Wednesday after Valentine’s Day on this #wonderwednesday! What did I do? I watched Sherlock season four with my friend on my bed. We had snow flurries Tuesday morning but we still had class. I originally planned to talk about this Monday but I talked about something else instead.
So if you’ve ever watched “Dr.Quinn Medicine Woman” there is an episode called “What is Love?” Dr. Mike’s son Brian is writing an essay to answer the question. He writes down everything he sees from the general store owner buying a red curtain for his friend who was directing the town plan to Dr. Mike’s fiancé Sully buying her engagement ring. What Brian sees are examples of love put into action but the Bible has something to say about it.
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13 ESV
This verse is used as a cliche but I wanna think differently about this verse. The first thing we’re going to do is every time you see the word “love” in the verse with “God”. Maybe read different translations of it but I want you think about it. The creator of the universe loves you. I love translation than says “love keeps no record of wrongs” which means God doesn’t keep a record of wrong. You can live in that freedom that you’re completely forgiven and loved.
Let’s do one more thing. This time replace “love” with the your name. That’s what God thinks of you. That what he says about you. You’re far more loved than you’ll ever know. Jesus died so you could live and live abundantly. Jesus finished sin in full so you have access to a loving Father. Your you and loved far more than you know. I love you but God loves you more.
