Well it’s Easter Monday in some traditions. Yesterday we reflected with a song. I spend my Easter morning watching church in my dorm room alone. I took part in communion as well and it was such a small but beautiful reminder. The grave is empty and Jesus rose again. I’m spending Sunday afternoon with my family.
“But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.””
Matthew 28:5-7 ESV
I think of that first Resurrection morning. This angel’s message is “don’t be afraid, I know you’re looking for Jesus but he’s not here. He has risen just as he said.” This Angel first says don’t be afraid then they clearly should be. Their savior is gone and they don’t know where he went. Jesus is risen from the dead, just like he said again and again and again. We can hold onto the promise too.
There’s something special about that first Easter. Jesus appears to his disciples, the two on the road to Emaeus, and hundreds of others. I do wanna look at a character I see in a new light. His name is Thomas. He is often labeled as a doubter. I’ve learned Thomas is more a realist than doubter. Like it doesn’t make sense but Jesus took the time to meet him again, let Thomas touch him and see the nail scars. Jesus does the same thing for me and you. He doesn’t shame you for how you feel. He wants to meet you where you are. You don’t have to strive or prove anything because Jesus shows up. Everything changes when he shows up. Remember the promises of the resurrection.
